If you are wondering, “Well, what is Anantpatal 100 Board? What skills do they teach?”

Anantpatal 100 board is one of the best hands-learning tools that meet nearly most math requirements for up to first grade.

From a formal schooling perspective, Anantpatal 100 Board can be used to reinforce several skills such as:

1.    Visual matching

2.    Numeral order

3.    Patterning

4.    Skip counting

5.    Comparing numbers (greater than, less than)

6.    Rounding the nearest 10

7.    Word problems

8.    Understanding place value

9.    Strategies for addition and subtraction

10.  Use of the Anantpatal board provides hands-on strategies for complex word problems.

11. Use of the Anantpatal board also provides strategies for understanding place value with base ten.

From a Montessori perspective, Anantpatal is literally a board with 100 square holes and was designed to help the learner understand sequential number order and counting to 100 in a hands-on way.

By using a 100 board, children can see how numbers are arranged in sequence and how they relate to one another. It provides a visual representation of numbers, making it easier for children to understand the concept of counting and to recognize patterns, helping to reinforce the concepts in a fun and interactive way.

So here we are going to share possible ways in 4 stages to help kids learn 1-100 counting numbers with this hands-on concrete material.

Point of Consciousness: (What you should be aware of):-

·         Child must be comfortable making numbers.

·         Control charts (100 charts) should only be used for the child to correct themselves.

·         You can let the child use the control chart at the end of the exercise to verify.

·         When the child has completed the 100 Board exercise, count aloud with the child.

·         Point to a number and ask the child to identify it.

·         This is a table work.

·      Placing the tiles along the right side of the board eliminates mess and assists with accuracy.

Stage 1

Place the number tiles from 1-100 on Anantpatal Frame and count aloud with the child. While he/she can touch the respective tile while speaking.

Stage 2

Place the board and container of number tiles on a mat or table. Sort the number tiles into columns by tens place. Don't worry about getting them in the correct order within each column.

Now grab the tile with 1 and place it on the Anantpatal 100 board. Continue with tiles 2-10.

Say, “What comes after, 10? That’s right 11. Let’s get the tiles 11- 20

Proceed until all the tiles have been placed.

Stage 3

If the child shows interest, allow the child to demonstrate, eventually removing yourself to allow the child to place all the tiles from 1-100 by themselves.

Stage 4

Let’s place all the number tiles in sequence. Now you can remove a few tiles from each row to make it a puzzle that needed to be solved by looking for the right tile for each blank space.

Bonus Tip: Make learning fun by incorporating games and rewards. Children are more likely to retain information when they are having fun and feeling motivated.
